REVIEW FROM DIRTY LINEN MAGAZINE, Aug/Sept 2003:
Kenny Blackwell/Dorian Michael - Mandolinist Kenny Blackwell and guitarist Dorian Michael team up for a refreshing collection of 12 contemporary instrumental pieces that feature tasteful duets and well-written tunes. The picking is crisp and clean and never hurried, with the emphasis on the melody and not the playing. The two wrote most of the material and cover a couple of traditional pieces and one Bill Monroe number. Effective and unintrusive use of bass and drums fleshes out the tracks, and Blackwell's fellow Laurel Canyon Ramblers bandmates Bill Bryson and Gabe Witcher help out as well. Thoroughly enjoyable. |
